How a piece gets here
Seven steps, eleven editors, zero shortcuts.
"Curated" is the most overused word in our industry. Here is what we mean by it: every maker on Things Festive has been visited (or, since 2020, video-walked through their studio by our editorial team) and reviewed against a written seven-step framework. We publish the framework because we want you to hold us to it.
- 01
Provenance. Who founded the studio, when, and where. We verify the public record — no relabeled factory production.
- 02
Hand of the maker. Does the work require a human decision that a machine cannot reproduce at scale?
- 03
Material integrity. We sample every new fiber, glaze, and alloy in a lab partner in Columbus, OH.
- 04
Ethical sourcing. Living-wage documentation for every named studio; we publish what we cannot verify.
- 05
Workshop safety. Annual check-in on ventilation, kiln maintenance, and protective equipment.
- 06
Durability testing. A representative piece from every collection lives in our QA studio for 30 days.
- 07
Editorial fit. Our trend team signs off — would we set this piece on our own table?
